About the Cecilians

Though the singers are amateurs, we employ a professional musical director and accompanist, enabling us to take achieve high standards while taking on repertoire which is both challenging and rewarding for us and (we’re assured!) our audience. Our repertoire in any season can cover the range from orchestral to unaccompanied concerts, from Baroque to newly-composed pieces, and include music from across the globe.

Our season runs from the beginning of September, and we typically perform three major concerts per year (roughly one per term), with occasional other smaller concerts or workshops. Although for major concerts we may engage external soloists, there are also frequent opportunities for members to take on solo roles.

Besides our regular concerts, the choir has featured a number of times on BBC radio, and in recent years we have twice been invited to perform with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in Preston Guildhall, singing Beethoven’s Choral Symphony and Brahms’ German Requiem.
